THE AP RACING STAFF

It takes a village to build the best team in tri and our team leaders are the best in the game.

Apprenticeship Program
Our coaches go through a rigorous 2-3 year apprenticeship program that Andy + Daniel have created over the years.
AP Racing coaches have continuing education programs and are required to train with Andy + Daniel throughout their coaching career with AP Racing as there is a lot that which can learned ‘on the road’.

Coach by Committee:
We believe that every coach has valuable insights and experiences that are unique to them. So, while our athletes are assigned a coach, we actually meet monthly to collectively review and plan all of our athletes training. We are stronger as a team than as one; because as a team, we are one (see what we did there).

IT ALL STARTS WITH 2 FRIENDS DOING COOL STUFF
AP + DB have been working and training together since 2007. During this time, they realized that they really love doing cool stuff with cool people. They also realized that they can help a lot of folks by providing access to all of the things they have had through the years: Great education, Great Experiences, and Great Friendships. This is how AP Racing was born!
Daniel likes to say, between the two of them, they have over thirty IM1406 and IM703 wins. Their accolades speak for themselves and are too long to list, but the real ‘magic’ with these two becomes apparent when you spend time with them. Quickly, you realize that their desire to share their knowledge and experiences with every level of athlete is unmatched.

PRO, MOM + EVENT DIRECTOR
Jackie is a 5x IM703 Champion, 2019 US Snowshoe National Champion and entering her 11th year as a professional triathlete. Equally important, Jackie understands the difficulties of balancing life as an athlete, mom, event director and anything else you can throw into the mix. Jackie is from Milwaukee and runs a series of events there to help build the community and create learning experiences for athletes. If you ever wanted to know how to ‘do it all’ and transform from an Age Grouper to Pro, Jackie can show you the way.

SWIM SPECIALIST + COACH TO THE STARS
Holly started off as an AP Racing athlete and we quickly recognized her ability to coach both adults and youth athletes. Similar to Andy, Holly came to triathlon after a successful youth and collegiate swim career. Holly has coached swimming for over 20 years and has coached triathlon for the past 10 years. Holly specializes with our athletes who need more help with their swimming and our beginner/intermediate athletes(she really gets it) Don’t let that fool you though, she also has seen success with IM and IM703 winners too! Fun fact: Holly also coached 2 of the 3 lead actors on the show Baywatch to prep them for their open water swim scenes.

“GUYS ON BIKES… AND KATIE”
Katie started off attending our AP Racing Camp in Arizona and immediately became part of the AP Racing Family. ‘Guys on bikes…and katie’ was born after years of Katie training alongside Daniel, Andy and Brian. Not only a great triathlete, Katie is also a world class mountaineer. When she isn’t riding bikes, she can be found on one of Colorado’s 14ers, in South America or some place really high. . If you can get in Katie’s ride groups during camp, you won’t be disappointed. Her cheery disposition and penchant to befriend anyone, has made her a valuable asset to our team. “Climb higher, smile often”, that’s Katie’s motto.

FOREVER WITH US- FROYO MILE CHAMPION, #GETSOME GUY!
This past year, we lost our coach and dear friend to a tragic biking accident. Anyone that has met Brian knows that Brian was born to teach and motivate. It was such a passion for him that you sometimes questioned if it was even real, or if you could deal with it. But once you realized it was nothing but real, you could not get enough of it or do anything but appreciate him so much. Brian was made to squeeze everything he could out of every single day and he wanted you to too. A devoted father, husband, police officer, coach, ski patrol instructor, and friend. The superlatives I could use to talk about Brian are never ending, but the one thing I want to say about Brian was that he was family. We honor Brian by trying to #getsome everyday.

WHEN 140.6 IS NOT ENOUGH.
Caroline came into triathlon by accident. She was the kid in school who walked the mile in 19 minutes(maybe that’s why she likes Ultra’s) while the whole class watched from the finish. She became a music teacher and the first school she taught at did a corporate 5k run together, which finally helped her see the joy of running. A random flyer in a race packet led her to a super sprint event and she was hooked. After realizing she knew nothing about triathlon, she was determined to be better and eventually she found her way to the ultra distance triathlon world where she finished 2nd place at her Ultraman Florida. Caroline turned her love of teaching into a love of coaching and has been coaching independently since 2018 until she came to her senses and joined AP Racing. We are excited to have Caroline on board to help with our beginner triathlete program(did we mention she ran a program in Olympic City USA the past few years) and with our Ultra distance athletes.

THE ONE WHO PAVED THE WAY FOR EVERYONE ELSE
Steve was the first coach to work with AP Racing. He helped us create our coaching apprenticeship and training program and is an athlete favorite. As an athlete, very similar to Andy, Steve was not introduced to triathlon until his mid-20s. Unlike Andy , he received his first swim lesson also in his 20’s and signed up for his first Ironman without owning a bike. Don’t let that fool you, Steve is a first class athlete who uses his background as an All-State athlete in XC, Track & Field, and Soccer to catapult his success. Steve was also a collegiate B-ball player, high school x-country coach and Athletic Director. Steve’s diverse sports background and all around happy demeanor make him a great coach, training partner and friend.

PRO, DAD, AND LIFETIMES OF EXPERIENCE
Brian started his triathlon journey as a swimmer, cross country and track runner at Florida State(Go Osceola and Renegade) and represented the USA for over a decade. In the previous century, way back in 1998, Brian won the US Junior National Championships and then went on to place 2nd at the elite nationals. After a decade plus of globe trotting and dominating, Brian now resides full time in Colorado Springs with his wife and sons. Brian brings to the table the perspective of a professional athlete, full time dad/husband, and the time constraints and demands of an AG athlete.

BRAZILIAN FLAIR, STANFORD SMARTS
Gustavo joined AP Racing as a Crew Athlete in 2018 and has emerged as not only one of our top level athletes but also a world class coach. A Stanford PHD, Gustavo combines wicked smarts with real world application(and common sense) to optimize training for our athletes. At races, Gustavo can regularly be seen on top of the podium doing his patented Brazilian Samba moves or out on the road cheering on his athletes. Although it’s not on record, it is believed that Daniel once said that "Gustavo might be the only person who can descend as fast as him.” I don’t believe it but maybe we will have to find out at one of our camps.

THE WOLF PACK HAS NOW BECOME 3
Brian started off by attending our AP Racing Olympic City USA Camp. He then started 1:1 Coaching with us and soon after, he was the kid that was ‘always around.’ In truth, we invited Brian to train with Daniel and Andy over one summer and we just had so much fun together that we did not let him leave. Brian is a great resource for athletes as he has completely transformed as an athlete over the years + is one of the best training partners any one can have. He understands the demands of ‘life’ and the demands of starting triathlon from traditional ‘American’ sports. He leaves no stone unturned and also makes sure that AP Racing runs smoothly.

HE TRADED A BALL FOR A BIKE AND NEVER LOOKED BACK
Similar to Daniel, Scott’s athletic career took him to Europe to play professional soccer at a young age. After returning stateside, he realized that he still wanted to train competitively now that his soccer career was over. Since finding triathlon, Scott has went from a middle of the pack racer to an ‘off the front guy’, once he can catch you after he gets out of the water. If you ever want to learn flip turns, ask us to send you his flip turn video- it’s a classic. Scott has been working with AP Racing since 2016(he is an Old G’) and is our Tahoe Camp Director and a member of ‘The Crew’.
