WHAT CONSISTENCY REALLY LOOKS LIKE

Most athletes think consistency means doing more.

More hours. More miles. More workouts.

It doesn’t.

Consistency means doing the right work, over and over, for long enough to let it work.

TWO ATHLETES. SAME BUT DIFFERENT PATHS.

Raquel Sampson and Matt Raske have both come to nearly every AP Racing camp.

They come to learn, train, ask questions, and absorb experience.

Just as importantly, camp gives me the chance to see how they move, respond, recover, think, and work. That makes the training we do once they return home far more specific and effective.

Raquel is full immersion.

She balances a demanding family life where being a mom and stacking memories always come first. Then she finds a way to make the training fit.

That might mean running between races at a swim meet, starting a trainer ride before sunrise and finishing outside, running countless laps around a cruise-ship deck, or leaning on friends and family when she needs help.

She is curious, precise, and committed.

Her results reflect it: consistent podiums, Kona qualifications whenever she sets her sights on them, and performances that keep getting better—even as the years add up.

MATT IS A TALE OF TWO ATHLETES.

For years, he came to camps, stayed at my house for private training blocks, and trained his face off.

He got stronger, dropped hours from his personal bests, became a consistent podium finisher across all distances, multiple Kona qualifications, and multiple sub-3 Boston marathon performances.

Now, his life is different.

He runs a busy veterinary surgery practice, has what feels like ten kids, and has less time to train.

So the training changed. The commitment didn’t.

Because I know Matt, his life, and his physiology, we can cut through the noise and focus on exactly what matters. We also rarely need to talk. That isn’t because he is disengaged. It is because we have built trust. I understand his life and know how his body is responding. He knows the plan and knows how to get it done because it fits his life, physiology and the demands for his racing and life.

Less volume. More precision.

And like always, he still shows up on race day and delivers.
